The Rigging Helper supports qualified rigging personnel and crane crews with load preparation, gear staging, connection work, load control, placement, and cleanup. Work is performed under direct supervision while the employee develops safe rigging practices, equipment-care habits, signaling awareness, and field hazard recognition. The role stops and reports work whenever the load, rigging, communication, or site conditions do not match the direction given. 

• Participate in pre-task and pre-lift briefings; confirm the assigned position, task, communication method, and stop signal.
• Locate and stage slings, shackles, hooks, tag lines, blocking, cribbing, tools, and support equipment in the sequence directed.
• Check common rigging gear for missing identification and obvious damage; tag or set aside questionable equipment for qualified review.
• Assist with routing slings, installing hardware, padding edges, preparing pick points, and securing loads under the direction of qualified rigging personnel.
• Confirm load tags, orientation marks, travel paths, and landing areas are ready; report missing information, blocked access, or unstable support.
• Maintain exclusion zones, stay clear of suspended loads and pinch points, and use tag lines only from a safe position.
• Watch for load shift, unexpected tilt, uneven sling tension, snagging, contact, or loss of communication and call stop immediately.
• Clear travel and landing areas; install or remove blocking only after the load is stable and movement has stopped
• Assist with de-rigging, post-use inspection, cleaning, coiling, storage, and inventory of rigging gear.
• Keep rigging bins, trailers, laydown areas, and work zones organized; protect gear from sharp edges, oil, heat, traffic, and ground damage.
• Support rigging personnel, operators, drivers, and installation crews as directed; report mistakes, damaged gear, missing material, and unsafe conditions promptly.
• Begin studying rigging and signaling practices in preparation for the certifications required to advance to Rigging 1. 

• Minimum of high school diploma or GED with no prior experience required, or combination of equivalent experience and training.
• Ability to follow verbal, radio, and standard hand-signal direction and ask for clarification before acting when instructions are unclear.
• Ability to work outdoors, at heights, around moving equipment, and in physically demanding field conditions.
• Documented employer practical qualification for assigned rigging duties.
• Forklift or telehandler, aerial lift or MEWP, and project- or site-specific qualifications when assigned.

Abilities:

• The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
• Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
• Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
• Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
• Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
• May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
• Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
• Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
• Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
