Rigging 2 is the senior technical rigging role for nonroutine, complex, or high-consequence load handling. The role validates load information and rigging calculations, selects and verifies advanced rigging arrangements, leads pre-lift preparation and communication, and directs load control through final placement. Rigging 2 identifies when engineering, manufacturer, lift-director, or formal critical-lift review is required and mentors less experienced rigging personne
Lead hazard reviews for nonroutine lifts, including load stability, stored energy, access, obstructions, ground and landing conditions, weather, and simultaneous work.
Review lift packages, drawings, manufacturer data, and site conditions for load weight, center of gravity, pick points, clearances, landing support, and sequence.
Determine or validate load weight and center of gravity using approved data or calculation methods; calculate sling-leg tension and load distribution for complex arrangements.
Select and verify multi-leg systems, spreader or lifting beams, hoists, specialized attachments, and custom lifting devices for condition, compatibility, capacity, and approval.
Develop and verify rigging arrangements for irregular, offset, fragile, or difficult-access loads within approved limits and protect engineered lifting points from unintended loading.
Lead pre-lift briefings and plan signal coverage, radio language, handoff points, hold points, stop conditions, and additional signal-person positions when required.
Direct test lifts, incremental balance corrections, tight-clearance movement, staged holds, controlled handoffs, and final placement.
Coordinate with crane operators, foremen, safety personnel, installation teams, drivers, and adjacent crews to remove field conflicts before movement.
Lead controlled recovery when a load must be landed, re-rigged, repositioned, or returned to the starting point because conditions changed.
Identify when engineering, manufacturer, lift-director, or formal critical-lift review is required and prevent unapproved changes to capacity, configuration, or method.
Inspect and troubleshoot recurring rigging damage, specialized gear, hoists, jacks, skates, rollers, cribbing, temporary supports, and stored-energy controls.
Lead small rigging teams or work segments, mentor employees in Rigging Helper and Rigging 1 roles, and document difficult-lift findings, near misses, and corrective actions.
