The Welder 2 Technician independently performs moderately complex welding, fitting, fabrication, repair, and finishing work. Plans work from detailed drawings, resolves routine and some nonroutine fit-up and weld issues, and supports less-experienced welders while maintaining safety, quality, and production flow.
• Interpret detailed drawings, weld symbols, tolerances, work packages, material requirements, and inspection points; plan a practical work sequence.
• Prepare, fit, and tack moderately complex assemblies; control gap, alignment, squareness, orientation, access, and distortion risk before welding.
• Set up and adjust approved welding processes for position, material thickness, joint condition, access, and heat control; perform multi-position or repair work as qualified.
• Diagnose and correct common issues involving fit-up, distortion, weld profile, equipment, consumables, sequence, or material condition; escalate code or design concerns.
• Perform visual checks, complete approved rework, and prepare weldments for inspection with accurate identification and documentation.
• Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, engineering, material handling, and adjacent trades to resolve technical or production constraints.
• Coach Welding Helpers and Welder 1 employees on setup, fit-up, safe work, defect prevention, and efficient work sequence; recommend practical improvements.
